Why Hydration Matters For Eye Health
Keeping the body hydrated is essential for good health, but hydration is equally important for your eyes. Without adequate moisture, your eyes become dry and uncomfortable. Understanding how hydration problems occur can help you prevent dry eye, one of the most common types of eye problems.
The eyes rely on water to help keep them lubricated in the form of tears. Lubrication is necessary to keep eyes moist, remove bacteria, and remove dust particles and other small particles that get in the eyes. When the body is dehydrated, there is not enough water to go around to remain hydrated.
The Dry Eye Drink boosts hydration 2-3 times compared to water alone, without the high sugar and sodium found in other drinks, and includes anti-inflammatories and vitamins for eye health.
Keeping your body hydrated is essential for good systemic health as well as proper ocular health.
What is Dry Eye?
Dry eye is a very common disease, with a prevalence of up to 75% in some groups of people. There are two types of dry eye: evaporative dry eye and aqueous-deficient dry eye. When you have evaporative dry eye, your eyelid glands don’t produce sufficient oils to keep tears from evaporating. When you have aqueous-deficient dry eye, you don’t produce sufficient tears.
Both forms of dry eye can affect people of all ages. If left untreated, dry eye can progress and significantly affect your daily life.
No matter the type, dry eyes feel uncomfortable, may sting , burn or even water. You may experience dry eyes in certain situations, such as in an air-conditioned room, on an airplane, while riding a bike, or after looking at a computer screen (or smartphone screen) for too long.
Causes of Dry Eye include:
- Age & Gender
